The prospects of a peace settlement to end the 18-year-old war in Afghanistan remain unclear as the Taliban have resumed offensive operations against Afghan security forces, despite a conditions-based agreement between the United States and the militant group being signed on 29 February. Taliban spokesman Zabihul-lah Mujahid announced the resumption of attacks against the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) on 2 March following the end of a partial 11-day-long truce that preceded the signing in Doha, Qatar, of the deal between the militant group and Washington, under which all foreign troops could leave Afghanistan within 14 months if conditions are met.
