The US Congressional Budget Office (GBO) has provided budget scenarios and cost estimates to achieve a 355-ship fleet within 15,20,25, or 30 years. The 24 April report is in response to the US Navy's (USN's) 2016 force structure assessment that calls for a fleet that size, instead of the currently planned 275-ship fleet. According to the CBO, procurement and operating costs under the alternative timelines would total USD300-400 billion more than under the USN's current 30-year shipbuilding plan.
