Deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to the south of the country has been set back by troops being used for crowd control and is "unlikely to improve" due to budget cuts, according to the latest report by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). UNIFIL is tasked with supporting the LAF's deployment to the south: a move that would help prevent another conflict as it would reduce Hizbullah's ability to attack Israel while undermining the Iranian-backed group's justification for maintaining its powerful armed wing.
