The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) held a ceremony on 18 March to mark the conversion of the Frontier Force of the 11th Infantry Brigade into a mechanised infantry unit, the Ministry of Defence announced on the same day. The ceremony was held at Thumarit Camp, which is next to Thumarit Air Base in the southern province of Dhofar. Omani television coverage of the event showed the Frontier Force parading at the camp in Pars III 8×8 armoured vehicles and Scorpion tracked reconnaissance vehicles, as well as driving quad bikes armed with 7.62 mm FN MAG machine guns.
