摘要

Japan's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on 26 March that the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) has deployed surface-to-air and anti-ship missile batteries along with about 340 troops to Miyakojima Island in Okinawa Prefecture to bolster the country's defence capabilities. The move comes amid China's growing assertiveness near the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea. It is unclear how many batteries have been deployed to Camp Miyakojima but a JGSDF spokesperson told Jane's that a unit of about 180 troops will be in charge of guarding and operating an improved version of the Type-03 medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. The weapon has a range of about 300 km, according to the MoD.
