The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a framework agreement on 21 April with Ceska Zbrojovka (CZUB) for up to 39,000 small arms worth CZK2.8 billion (USD112 million). "We need to standardise the small arms of both professional soldiers and members of the active reserve," said General Ales Opata, chief of the general staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. The contract runs until 2025, with CZUB supplying the Czech Army with up to 16,000 CZ BREN 2 modular assault rifles, 21,000 CZ P-10 pistols, 1,600 CZ 805 Gl grenade launchers, and nearly 100 PDW CZ Scorpion carbines, along with training rounds. The CZ BREN and CZ BREN 2 assault rifles have been the basic weapon of the Czech Army since 2011. The procurement follows contracts from 2010 to 2016, when the Czech Army bought 40,000 CZUB weapons.
