The United States has introduced new export controls to prevent China from acquiring sensitive technologies, even in commercial sectors. The move is apparently an effort by Washington to address China's long-standing civil-military integration (CMI) strategy, which seeks to leverage advanced commercial technologies for military gains. The US already prohibits arms sales to Beijing, although the new measures require US companies to obtain licences for supplies of technologies and equipment that are sold for civilian use but support the Chinese military through the CMI policy.
