The range of the Serbian Army's 2S1 Gvodika 122 mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) has been increased, Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin announced during the test firing of an upgraded version of the weapon at the Pasuljanske livade training ground on 15 May. He said a modern fire-control system has been installed in the SPH, allowing it to switch to firing mode in 20 seconds. Acting Minister for Materiel Resources Nenad Miloradovic said the range had been increased by 38% with the use of two new types of artillery shell. He reported that the system is expected "to achieve simultaneous impact with six shells, meaning one weapon can replace an entire battery". Miloradovic said initial Serbian Army units would be equipped with the new system by the end of the year after the quick completion of the modernisation process.
