The Colombian Navy has nearly finished its preparations to take over the operation of the former Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) vessel Iksan, a decommissioned 1,225-tonne Pohang-class Flight IV corvette donated in January by the South Korean government, senior military sources in Bogota have told Janes. The corvette was delivered in late 1988 by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Originally commissioned in 1989 as ROKN Iri and rechristened Iksan in 1999, it is slated to be named ARC Boyaca when it is officially transferred to Colombia.Colombian naval crewmembers are due to travel to South Korea later this month, where they will be quarantined for two weeks as a Covid-19 precaution before training on the ship for nine weeks.
