The Hungarian Air Force decommissioned all five of its remaining An-26 twin-engined turboprop transport aircraft on 11 June.Attending the decommissioning ceremony, Defence Minister Tibor Benko confirmed that talks are underway to procure three medium transport aircraft with ramps and an air refuelling capability to replace the An-26s. The five decommissioned aircraft are to be sold, Benko said.The minister added that the process of re-equipping the Hungarian Armed Forces by replacing Soviet/ Russian-made equipment with Western systems is under way and one of the next tasks will be the procurement of an air-defence system capable of protecting the airspace of the entire country.
