摘要

The Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD) plans to hold an auction to sell off used defence equipment and raise funding for military modernisation. Japan's defence minister, Taro Kono, said in a press conference that the auction will feature about "30 no longer needed defence items" such as a control column from a Kawasaki C-1 transport aircraft and a fighter pilot helmet. He said the sale, which will take place on 26 July, is required in line with wider government efforts to increase funding for capital expenditure against a background of economic constraints made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
