US Air Force (USAF) special-mission Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules aircraft are to be equipped with counter-measures to mask them from radar and to protect them against surface-and air-launched radar-guided missiles under a USD700 million contract announced on 1 July. The US Special Operations Command has contracted Sierra Nevada Corporation to equip the AC-130J Ghostriderand MC-130J Commando Ⅱ aircraft flown by Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) with a new radio-frequency counter-measures system to protect aircrews from air- and land-based radar-guided weapons.
