Argentina is set to acquire 27 M1126 Stryker infantry carrier vehicles (ICVs) from the United States as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal valued up to USD100 million. The US Department of State notified Congress of the authorised sale on 6 July. The acquisition comes as part of the South American nation's larger plan to acquire more than a 100 M1126S through a follow-on order, senior military sources told Janes. Requested by the government of former Argentinian president Mauricio Macri in 2019 and confirmed this year by the current administration led by President Alberto Fernandez, the vehicles will be refurbished in the US before delivery and include V-shaped hulls to better protect troops inside from mines and improvised explosive devices. Argentina began plans to acquire new armoured vehicles years ago. In 2007, for example, the Argentine Army issued a standing requirement for 120-150 wheeled armoured vehicles, along with a long-term goal of equipping a mechanised infantry brigade with the capability.
