Lockheed Martin is officially joining Boeing and a Raytheon-Northrop Grumman team in the quest to build the US Missile Defense Agency's (MDA's) Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI). Last year the agency terminated its Redesigned Kill Vehicle (RKV) competition, designed to replace the legacy Exoatmos-pheric Kill Vehicle for homeland defence interceptors, and gave companies until 31 July to submit their respective bids for the revamped effort. Sarah Reeves, Lockheed Martin's vice-president of missile defence programmes, announced on 3 August that her company was participating and had submitted its plan to build the new interceptor.
