A Cameroonian Lockheed Martin C-130H skidded off the runway after landing at Maroua in the country's Far North region on 2 August, the Cameroonian Ministry of Defence confirmed. Footage of the accident released on social media showed heavy rain was falling when the aircraft landed, making the runway slippery, as a military source confirmed to Janes. According to the defence ministry, five crew members and 91 passengers were on board the C-130, none of whom were injured. The latter were military personnel preparing to deploy under the Multinational Joint Task Force, which is responsible for countering the activities of the Islamic State West Africa Province militant group.
