摘要

Moscow's deployment of fighter and strike jets to Libya in May has prompted US concern that Russia could establish another anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) 'bubble' in the central Mediterranean, much like the one its deployments to Syria have established to the east. While that remains a possibility, Moscow appears to be trying to limit its still-unacknowledged military presence in Libya to a level that is just sufficient to deter Turkey and its allies. The more immediate problem for those looking to curb Russian power is that, by deploying forces to support the Libyan National Army (LNA) against the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), Moscow has aligned itself with numerous states - including NATO members - that want to curb Ankara's expanding influence in the Mediterranean and Libya.
