After struggling through the past three decades from the lack of investment in naval programmes, the Argentine naval industry is getting an infusion of funding for a recent project award, as well as renewed interest in planned programme starts. A contract between Rio Santiago Shipyard, the Defence Ministry and Tandanor shipyard was signed on 20 August to finish the two 300-tonne training vessels for the Argentine Navy, the construction of which started in 2016 but was stopped in 2018. The contract is for ARS100 million (USD1.3 million), of which 80% is slated for Rio Santiago and the rest for Tandanor. The two vessels are scheduled to be finished within 18 months.
