The first Saab F-39E Gripen fighter jet for the Brazilian Air Force (Forca Aerea Brasileira: FAB) is due to arrive in Brazil this month, the service told Janes on 3 September. The single-seat flight test instrumentation (FTI) aircraft (serial number FAB4100) departed from Norrkoping in Sweden by ship on 1 September, headed for Itajai in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The aircraft is scheduled to be officially presented to the FAB on 23 October in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, on the occasion of the air force's Aviator Day event, the service added. The aircraft, which began its flight test programme in August 2019 in Linkoping, Sweden, will undergo a further test campaign at the Gripen Flight Test Center (GFTC) in Gaviao Peixoto in the state of Sao Paulo. The aircraft will then be delivered to the air force once development of the F-39E is complete.
