The US Air Force's (USAF's) milestone of updating an aircraft's software during flight is about demonstrating the ability to dynamically adjust platforms, how they operate, and what services they provide, even while in flight, according to experts. Will Roper, USAF assistant secretary for acquisition, technology, and logistics (AT&L), announced on 19 October that the USAF, three days earlier, had updated the code of a Lockheed U-2 Dragon Lady high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft during flight. The first update was a docker container generating log files. The second update, Roper said on Twitter, was improved automatic target recognition algorithms.
