The S-300PMU-2 (SA-20B 'Growler') strategic surface-to-air missile (SAM) battery based at Bushehr Air Base departed for a deployment to Mashhad Air Base in February 2019. When the deployment ended the battery did not return to Bushehr but instead deployed to the Tehran area, where it remains, leaving the Bushehr site unoccupied. Satellite imagery has enabled Iranian S-300PMU-2 movements during 2019 to be clarified, permitting a more accurate analysis of current force postures. The Bushehr and Esfahan S-300PMU-2 batteries are currently forward deployed.
