The Russian Navy (VMF) is to receive three nuclear-powered submarines by the end of the year, including the Project 955A (Borei-A-class) ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Knyaz Oleg and the Project 885M (Yasen-M-class) guided missile submarines (SSGNs) Kazan and Novosibirsk, VMF commander Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov told the Ministry of Defence's Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper on 19 March. "Two more Project 955A SSBNs, Knyaz Potyomkin and Dmitry Donskoy, are set to be laid down this year," Adm Yevmenov added. Fifth-generation nuclear-powered submarines are being developed along with the construction of fourth-generation SSBNs and SSGNs, he said.
