Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have reached an agreement to extend by a month the temporary technical understanding they signed in February, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi announced on 24 May.Iran and the IAEA signed a temporary technical understanding as a stopgap measure on 23 February following Tehran's decision to terminate the provisional implementation of the Additional Protocol and other verification measures agreed under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). This gave the negotiating parties to the JCPOA until 23 May to revive the 2015 deal between Iran and several world powers that restricted the Iranian nuclear programme and to oversee Tehran and Washington's return to compliance.However, because the ongoing JCPOA negotiations in Vienna are yet to find a resolution, the technical understanding has now been extended until 24 June.
