Russian missile manufacturer Almaz-Antey is increasing the capabilities of the Tor-M2 short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system against tactical aerial targets, an industry source told Janes on 31 May. "Further modernisation of the system is planned to integrate a missile with a seeker that will complement the existing SAM with radio command guidance," he said. "It is also planned to incorporate dozens of compact missiles into the system to engage lower-tier targets at ranges of 6-7km." The source noted that the mixed ammunition supply dramatically increases the Tor-M2's capabilities to repel air strikes and provides the capability to select the appropriate missile for each target.
