The Naval & Special Ship Business Unit (NSSBU) of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is positioning for future growth in domestic and international markets through investments, enhancements in efficiencies, and an emphasis on research and development (R&D), Sang Hoon Nam, the head of NSSBU and HHI senior executive vice president, told Janes. Nam explained that the expansion plan follows an HHI restructuring in 2018 through which NSSBU was separated from HHFs Shipbuilding Division. This move, he said, "laid the foundation for an independent management system for sustainable growth". Nam added, "NSSBU is playing a key role in the development and construction of the latest warships, in addition to contributing to the economy by expanding exports of warships."
