Colombia's Quimbaya X-003 tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) will enter its final stage of testing in August, the manager of CIAC (Colombia's agency in charge of aircraft construction, repair, and maintenance) has told Janes. The final tests, General Ivan Hidalgo said, will last for about three months and be carried out by the Colombian Air Force (FAC). The tests will be conducted at Marandua Air Base (Grupo Aereo de Oriente) under the supervision of CIAC technicians, during which time the UAV will be deployed in different weather and topographic conditions in order to test its tactical capabilities. In June technicians from German company Hirth Engines, the supplier of the Quimbaya's power-plant, visited Colombia in order to carry out a series of flights that allowed adjustments to be made to the engine's rpm and altitude limits.
