Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded Hensoldt a contract for the delivery and installation of four Hughes Air Defence Radar Nachfolgesystem (Follow-on System) long-range radars, the company announced on 26 July. To fulfil the contract, Hensoldt is co-operating with Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary Elta Systems on ballistic-missile-defence-capable long-range radars. Hensoldt is responsible forthe integration, certification, and long-term support of the radars, while Elta will provide systems that are available on the market. Hensoldt said the new radars would operate in the S-band, allowing more accurate acquisition of targets in space than other systems.
