Permanent bases are being built for the three Patriot air-defence batteries that the Royal Saudi Air Defenct Forces (RSADF) deployed to the southwest of the kingdom after the military intervention in Yemen in 2015, satellite imagery shows. The new base north of Khamis Mushayt is next to the site that has been used since 2016 to defend the city and King Khalid Air Base, which has frequently been targeted by ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by the Yemeni rebel group Ansar Allah Maxar satellite imagery from 22 July shows a radar and three launchers are now deployed at the base, although none of launchers are inside the six hardened position; that have been built for them. Another two launchers could be seen outside the bunkers that have presumably been built to store missiles.
