Partner nations France, Germany, and Spain have agreed development of the Next-Generation Weapon System (NGWS) element of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS)/Systeme de Combat Aerien Futur (SCAF) programme. On 31 August the three governments signed the Implementation Agreement 3 element of the programme's wider Phase 1B phase, covering development of the New Generation Fighter (NGF), Remote Carrier (RC) loyal wingman, and Air Combat Cloud networked bat-tlespace that comprise the NGWS. The new agreement covers work from 2021 to 2027. "The signing of this agreement confirms the commitment of Germany, Spain, and France to the development of a new generation [of] combat aviation capable of facing future threats and challenges," the parties said in a joint communique to mark the agreement, which was signed by the French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly, German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, and Spanish Defence Secretary Esperanza Caste-leiro Llamazares. "Following on from the work already carried out since 2019, it marks a new stage, the first flight demonstrations of which will be the result in 2027," the communique added.
