The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) received the sixth of nine Boeing P-8A Poseidon MRA1 maritime multi-mission aircraft (MMA) on 21 September. Aircraft ZP806, named Guernsey's Reply after a 201 Squadron Supermarine Spitfire of the Second World War, flew into RAF Lossie-mouth in Scotland to join the previously delivered ZP801 Pride of Moray, ZP802 City of Elgin, ZP803 Terence Bulloch DSO DFC, ZP804 Spirit of Reykjavik, and ZP805 Fulmar. The RAF said the latest addition to its Poseidon fleet will play a crucial part in 201 Squadron's role as the 'school house' and its mission to train the next generation of Poseidon aircrew and instructors. "It will also form part of the frontline fleet, which will total nine aircraft by the end of the year," the service added. Besides 201 Squadron, the Poseidon fleet is operated by the RAF's 120 Squadron, with 54 Squadron serving as the operational conversion unit. RAF P-8As are being delivered to the same standard as the aircraft fielded by the US Navy (USN) and all other export nations except India, which operates its own P-8I Neptune configuration. The RAF also fields the same Mk 54 torpedoes and Harpoon anti-ship missiles as the USN. Just ahead of the arrival of the first Poseidon in the United Kingdom, the USN disclosed that it was seeking to integrate new weapons onto the platform, including the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM); a 500-2,000 lb class of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) variants; Mk 62/63/65 mines; Small Diameter Bomb Ⅱs; and the Miniature Air-Launched Decoy (MALD). These will also remain an option for the RAF.
