Twin bomb attacks on military personnel in Karachi represented a worrying departure from the normal pattern of violence in Pakistan's economic hub. On 26 April, two buses carrying naval personnel were struck almost simultaneously by roadside bombs in the city. According to Sharfuddin Memon, a Sindh government official quoted by Agence France-Presse, one bomb was hidden on a motorcycle parked in the Defence Housing Authority, a neighbourhood near the upmarket Clifton Beach area favoured by government ministers and wealthy officials. The second device was hidden in rubbish in the impoverished Baldia Town in the northwest of the city. Memon told AFP the bombs were detonated by remote control and that the main suspects were the Lashkar-e-Janghvi and Jundul-lah militant groups. Four people died and 60 were injured in the explosions.
