The UK MoD's Dstl and an industry team led by Leonardo Airborne and Space Systems (formerly Selex ES) have completed a series of ground-based trials and flight tests designed to demonstrate the concept of an 'open architecture'aircraft survivability equipment suite. Under the three-year, GBP24 million (USD30 million) Common Defensive Aids System (CDAS) Technology Demonstrator Programme (TDP), the MoD/industry team delivered a flexible, open DAS architecture, and demonstrated CDAS capabilities by building on legacy equipment and integrating additional new sub-systems. According to Dstl, this new open architecture enables warning sensors and countermeasures devices to be fitted more easily, thereby enabling rapid uplift in the survivability of front-line helicopters.
