To enhance the firepower of the Nexter Systems Vehi-cule de Combat d'Infanterie (VCI) 8×8 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), of which 520 have now been delivered to the French Army, Nexter Munitions is now under contract to the Direction generate de l'armement (DGA) to develop a new 2 5 mm round. The 25×137 mm high-explosive incendiary - air bursting (HEI-AB) round will meet STANAG 4713 requirements. When qualified it will provide the VCI with the capability to engage a wider range of targets than is possible with currently deployed ammunition types, especially dug in infantry and anti-tank teams.
