Rafael Advanced Defense Systems unveiled an advanced variant of its Derby short- to Beyond-Visual-Range (BVR) air-to-air missile (AAM) and surface-to-air missile (SAM) at Aero India in Bangalore on 19 February 2015. The new i-Derby retains the same airframe, propulsion, warhead, and kinematic performance envelope of the Derby, but a new, advanced lighter weight, and reduced volume fully active radar seeker developed in-house by Rafael replaces the existing Israel Aerospace Industries-developed RF seeker to deliver an end-to-end missile made entirely by Rafael.
