Otokar and FNSS Savunma Sistemleri originally only designed and built armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) for the Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC), but both have now become global players in the competitive export market, having secured significant sales in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. For many years Otokar has been the largest manufacturer of wheeled AFVs in Turkey, but it has now moved into the more complex but potentially rewarding tracked domain. Otokar general manager Serdar Gorgue told IHS Jane's, "We have been operating in the defence industry for over 2 8 years now since the day we made our first tactical armoured vehicle export in Turkey. Today our vehicles are used on five continents, in around 3 0 countries, and by nearly 50 users. The feedback and the expectations of our users are our guidelines to enlarge our product portfolio. Today we manufacture 4x4 tactical wheeled vehicles, [and] armoured vehicles from three quarters of a tonne up to 60 tonnes."
