Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has disclosed the first flight of its shadowy Unmanned Tactical Aerial Platform (UTAP)-22 high performance tactical unmanned aircraft system (UAS). Revealing limited details in a quarterly trading update released in early November, Kratos said that the flight test had been performed on the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division test range at China Lake, California. No images or detailed performance characteristics of UTAP-22 have been released by Kratos owing to what it calls "confidentiality and other considerations". However, the company has acknowledged that the UTAP-22, developed using internal funds, is a high performance jet-powered air vehicle "designed specifically for survivability in challenging and hostile environments".
