Elbit Systems of America has been awarded a USD 106 million contract for work to upgrade four Grumman C-1A Trader aircraft for the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil - MB), the company announced in late December. The five-year deal, which will see Elbit sub-contracted to Marsh Aviation Company of Arizona, involves the upgrade of four C-1A airframes to the KC-2 carrier onboard delivery (COD) and air-to-air refueling (AAR) configuration. According to Elbit, the contract will include returning the former US Navy aircraft to service, replacing the engines, installing and integrating a 'glass' cockpit, fitting new communication systems, new environmental control systems, and AAR equipment. Work will be performed at the facilities of its subsidiary, M7 Aerospace, in San Antonio, Texas.
