Argentina has committed itself to spending ARS35.1 billion (USD5.7 billion) on defence in 2014, marking a 3 3.4% nominal increase over the ARS26.31 billion spent in 2013. The Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) funding represents about 4% of the national budget. Argentina's increase in defence spending is based in part on efforts to give the Argentine military more parity within Latin America, as the state's defence budget has recently represented one of the lowest percentages of gross domestic product (GDP) in the region, according to a quadrennial report by the consultancy New Majority.
