Boeing is close to establishing the root cause of a landing mishap that damaged the main landing gear of its Phantom Eye high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the conclusion of its maiden flight in June. The company should resume flight testing once a fix has been implemented, the project's programme manager, Andrew Mallow, said. Speaking at the site of the flight test campaign at Edwards Air Force Base (AFB) in California, Mallow said that investigative work already done at Boeing's St Louis facility in Missouri suggests that the company is dealing with a design fault rather than a material or manufacturing one.
