Raytheon Missile Systems has been contracted for the procurement of long lead materials in support of Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) new production for Foreign Military Sales (FMS). Awarded by US Naval Sea Systems Command on 11 January, the USD8.5 million undefinitised contract is understood to cover the provision of long lead components for the SM-2 radio frequency seeker/guidance system. Approximately half the work will be performed by Thales Nederland in Hengelo, the Netherlands, while the remainder will be undertaken at Raytheon facilities in McKinney, Texas, and Tucson, Arizona. Work is expected to be completed by March 2023. The order is a precursor to a full contract-including all-up rounds, instrumental kits, engineering services, and spares -for a second SM-2 'batch buy' to meet the FMS needs of Denmark, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, Spain, and Taiwan.
