Replenishment vessels are an essential part of any blue-water, oceangoing navy. They enable fleets to carry out operations at considerable distances from naval bases by providing fuel, food, munitions, and other supplies. From 2014 to 2018, the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) was unable to provide replenishment-at-sea (RAS) with its own ships, instead relying on partners and allies to carry out this vital mission.
