The next generation of the CH-53 heavy-lift combat assault transport helicopter, the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion, was officially rolled out by the US Marine Corps (USMC) and United Technologies in May 2014. After the Boeing-Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight medium-lift helicopter flew its last mission in August 2015, the CH-53K is expected to fill its primary heavy-lift mission by building on the CH-53E Super Stallion legacy of providing aerial connectors to the USMC seabase. In addition, Sikorsky's parent company, Lockheed Martin, is eyeing other CH-53 operators such as Germany, Israel, and Japan, as it looks to show the capabilities of the new platform and secures export orders.
