There is now a broad consensus across European navies on the ways and means by which mine countermeasures (MCM) will be executed in the years ahead. Instead of using low-signature, high-value specialist mine countermeasures vessels (MCMVs) to venture forth into the mine danger area, there is an overwhelming expectation that future capability will be delivered by unmanned and increasingly autonomous systems operating from less complex mother-ships standing off from the minefield, craft of opportunity, or shore sites.
