The US Navy's (USN's) lead Zumwalt-class DDG 1000 destroyer has begun initial sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean, the USN confirmed on 8 December. The ship sailed from Bath Iron Works (BIW) on 7 December with BIW, DDG 1000 programme, and ship's company personnel embarked. The trials will, see the navy demonstrate key systems and technologies, to help identify issues and mitigate risks.
