The second former Hamilton-class US Coast Guard (USCG) cutter to be used by the Philippine Navy (PN) as a frigate set sail for its new role on 10 June. Ex-USCGC Dallas left the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, South Carolina, with a new name, BRP Ramon Alcaraz (pennant PF-16), and crew. Transiting the Panama Canal, Ramon Alcaraz and its crew of 14 officers and 74 enlisted personnel is expected to arrive in Manila in the first week of August. Ramon Alcaraz will join its sister ship, BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (ex-USCGC Hamilton), which was handed over by the United States in 2012.
