I am delighted that over 20 nations have accepted my invitation to join the Royal Australian Navy's Fleet Entry centenary commemorations at our International Fleet Review on Sydney Harbour and throughout the city during 3-11 October 2013. The 4 October 1913 entry of the 'Fleet Unit' into Sydney Harbour, consisting of the flagship HMAS Australia and the then newest ships of the Australian Fleet, HMA Ships Melbourne, Sydney, Encounter, Warrego, Parramatta and Yarra, was a moment of great national pride and significance. Since Federation, Australia's Navy has worked with neighbours, allies and strategic partners, developing strong and positive relations that contribute to regional security and stability. These relationships and capabilities are vital to the protection of the global maritime trading system on which we all depend for our prosperity and security.
