The Indian Navy (IN) launched its first indigenously designed aircraft carrier on 12 August at the Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, after a four-year delay. "It's a remarkable milestone," said Defence Minister A K Antony. The launch of Indigenous Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant makes India the fifth country after France, Russia, the UK, and the United States to build a mid sized carrier in the modern era.
