Having established a solid reputation over many years as a 'customer friend' to defence technical departments and procurement organisations around the world, BMT Group is today plotting a new course intended to more effectively capitalise on the intellectual property of its proprietary naval vessel designs. The UK-based company has unveiled plans to boost revenue through more aggressive marketing of a number of platform designs, ranging from patrol boats and landing craft to surface combatants and logistics support ships. This change in tack has already started to bear fruit, most notably with the Aegir family of replenishment ships. "Our strategy is to better exploit our IP [intellectual property], either by developing our concept designs - as we have already done with Aegir - or by getting involved in studies for government," said David Bright, BMT's defence sector director.
