The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) is seeking international co-operation for a future surface combatant to replace the M (Karel Doorman class) frigates in 2023-24. According to a presentation at IQPC's Surface Warships Conference 2012 in Paris, the new frigate would be designed for high-intensity conflicts and expeditionary warfare with a focus on anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-air warfare (AAW) and anti-surface warfare (ASuW). Secondary capabilities would permit participation in military operations other than war (MOOTW).
