The Vietnam People's Navy accepted into service three new patrol vessels - two of them built in Russia, the other locally - on 1 March. The 49 m Svetlyak-class patrol craft HQ-264 andHQ-265 were handed over to the navy's 5th Regional Command, which manages operations in the Gulf of Thailand, state-run news agency VietNamNet reported on 2 March. At the same time the 2nd Regional Command, which is responsible for the south coast from Binh Thuan province to Bac Lieu, on the South China Sea, took delivery of the indigenously built 54 mHQ-272.
