As Japan's survivability is based on international and regional security, the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) remains committed to contributing - within the limits of its constitution - to international operations geared towards maintaining that security and stability, according to its chief of staff. "Japan's own survival depends upon the oceans," JMSDF head Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano told IHS Jane's. "We are ever-willing to play our role in contributing toward international peace and security."
